M&L Richardson & Sons Ltd are a family-run company that operates SPAR stores at nine petrol forecourts, plus two non-forecourt SPAR stores across Cumbria and the North East of England.

The Challenge
As a well-established family business, M&L Richardson & Sons Ltd prides itself on first-class customer service and making processes easier for their in-store teams. They were conscious of the time their store staff were having to spend manually counting their cash takings and reconciling and banking their cash and were also aware that due to unavoidable human error from time to time, their cash counts weren’t always completely accurate. They needed a new cash handling solution to solve these issues and one that would be cost-effective and make their stores as efficient as possible. They were also keen to find a cash handling company that could offer them the option to lease equipment, so that they could reduce the costs of introducing cash handling equipment to all their stores at once.
The Solution
Impressed by the demonstration of our CCi solutions they were introduced to at one of the many events we attend each year and learning about Volumatic’s excellent track record with other fuel convenience retailers, M&L Richardson chose to partner with Volumatic to introduce the CounterCache intelligent (CCi) to their SPAR stores. Working together to find the right price to suit their requirements, Volumatic and M&L Richardson agreed on a lease deal funded by The Capital Group, allowing M&L Richardson to install one CCi device into some of their biggest SPAR stores.

The Outcome
M&L Richardson quickly saw the benefits of the CCi as it helped them become more efficient and their banking discrepancies became a thing of the past. As they opened more SPAR stores, they have invested in more CCi devices, rolling it out to the majority of their stores. Their initial order was a lease deal, but over the eight years we have worked together, Martyn has started to buy CCi devices for his newer stores, confident in their reliability and ROI.
Their previous cash reconciliation process was time-consuming and the CCi solution means they no longer have to manually count cash, and that everything is completely accurate, as notes are only touched once between being inserted into the CCi device and reaching their bank. Not only has it helped their processes, it also means they can spend more time on customer-centric tasks.
